Shiv Parivar Puja

The Shiv Parivar Pooja is performed to get family bliss and seek blessings of the divine family of Lord Shiva that has four members namely, Lord Shiva, His consort Parvati, and the two sons, Kartikeya (Subramanya) and Ganesha (Vinayaka).

Lord Shiva represents the aspect of the Supreme Being (Brahman of the Upanishads) that continuously dissolves to recreate in the cyclic process of creation, preservation, dissolution, and recreation of the universe. Lord Shiva is the Lord of mercy and compassion. He protects devotees from evil forces such as lust, greed, and anger. He grants boons, bestows grace, and awakens wisdom in His devotees.

Parvati is the consort of Shiva. Parvati is known as the motherly form of Mother Goddess Gauri Jagadamba, Parvati is another form of Shakti, the wife of Shiva and the gentle aspect of Maha Devi. Parvati symbolizes many different virtues esteemed by Hindu tradition: fertility, marital felicity, devotion to the spouse, asceticism, and power. Parvati represents the householder ideal in the perennial tension in Hinduism in the household ideal and the ascetic ideal.

Kartikey is a son of Shiva and a brother to Ganesha. Kartikey is the scientist of the gods. When Brahma had granted the demon Taraka the boon of invulnerability to all but a son of Shiva and Taraka became extremely powerful, the gods sought to persuade the ascetic Shiva to produce a son with Parvati. Finally, Agni could pick up a seed of the great god but dropped it in a river. From the seed, Kartikey was born. Six goddesses, the Krtikkas (Pleiades), were filled with compassion for the newborn. They were quarreling over him because each of them was eager to nurse the baby. To satisfy them all, Kartikey grew six heads and grew up under their guidance. Kartikey became commander of the army of the gods and slew the demon Taraka.

Ganesha is believed to be born from sandalwood paste from Goddess Parvati's body. He has an elephant head, a big belly, and long ears. Ganesha is considered the master of intellect and wisdom, remover of obstacles, and destroyer of vanity, selfishness, and pride.

The Shiva Parivar is a symbol of harmony, prosperity, and completeness. The Shiva Parivar in itself encompasses the entire universe and the essence of the entire universe. Shiv Parivar Puja and Yajna is one of the most auspicious Puja for any Shiva devotee. It provides overall prosperity and is especially beneficial for harmony and growth in houses and relationships.
